Gingerbread House

Gingerbread house

I made this for first time 2 christmas ago and everyone thought it was brilliant. To get the pieces of house together you have to use royal icing which by hand was sticky and messy. I used sweets to decorate it.

I made some puff pastry pizza yesterday for me and my husband for dinner. It was so easy to make. Just roll out some ready to made puff pastry, cut it into the shapes you want, made a border on them with a knife then put your sauce and topping on and cook. Absolutely wonderful.

I made these on Mothers Day for all the family using this recipe:

  • 125g Butter
  • 125g Caster Sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 250g Plain Flour

In a bowl beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix well.

Sift half the flour into the bowl and mix well, then sift in the other half and mix again.

Knead the dough until smooth, then wrap in cling film and let it rest in the fridge for half an hour.

Preheat the oven to gas mark 4/180c/350F

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to around 4mm thick and use any cutter you want to cut it out.

Place on a baking tray lined with baking parchment and bake for 15 minutes until light golden brown.

Allow to cool before decorating.
